The Week of NOT Reading Aloud

This has been a rough week, especially for reading aloud.  The first part of the week was consumed by illness.  Not only was mom sick, but so was a couple of the older girls.  The oldest, who has type 1 diabetes, ended up in the ICU once again with an infection that dehydrated her.  My public schooled daughter missed two days of school with a sore throat.

Then there was me... the mom.  I have been sick for a solid week.  Cold symptoms and congestion have made life difficult.  I lost my voice for several days beyond a hoarse whisper.  I laid around for days, just hoping some of the medicine I was taking would kick in and "kick" the illness out of me.  Recovery hasn't been a quick process.

Needless to say, school has been hit and miss this week.  Laura did her independent work quite successfully.  However, once again poor Megan didn't get as much mommy time as I would like.  And there was no reading aloud from this mommy.  Laura and Dad read to Megan here and there, but it wasn't to the degree that I would have liked.  However, I am determined not to stress about it.

Our schedule has been off all year.  I have taken a couple of rabbit trails in our education.  Illness and family challenges have limited my plans.  I have been tempted a couple of times to toss my year and begin again, but things haven't gotten that bad yet.  Instead, I am doing my best to just keep on keeping on, pushing forward the best I can.

After all, our lives and days are in God's hands.  He has a plan in making sure I slow down.  The challenges of this week will soon pass.
