The goal is to finish up the letter "P" this week. Our weeks have been kinda crazy lately, and poor Megan hasn't gotten do school as much as I would like. I'm not overly worried about it though. She still is spending lots of time coloring and playing and just being four.
Megan is picking up things so quickly now compared to when we first began Heart of Dakota's Little Hands to Heaven. The first time she had to glue macaroni onto a letter, it took her nearly an hour. Now, she is finished in just a few minutes... and with much better precision. Sometimes just taking things slow and letting kids develop at their own speed is the best way to do things. That is what I have been doing with Megan. We are taking preschool slow. We are doing tons of reading aloud and coloring. I encourage her to play, play, play. I have gotten strict about the television being OFF as much as possible. It isn't even allowed on during the daytime at all. I want my daughter to develop all those "learning hooks" I have read about in those wonderful homeschooling books I've recently devoured. Those "hooks" won't develop with passive learning such as occurs in television watching. They occur when a child is free to be creative, use their imagination, is read to a lot, and has real conversations with real people (not just answering the questions asked by Steve or Joe in Blue's Clues or Dora or Diego!). The more I read about how God designed children to learn, the more I realize how off we are with children today.
