I Dared to Call Him Father - Book Review

I recently downloaded this book to my Nook.  It was recommended on the YWAM (Youth With A Mission) Publishing website.  I quickly found myself engrossed in the world of Bilquis Sheikh.  Bilquis is a Muslim woman that finds herself reading and comparing a Bible and a Koran.  As she reads, and experiences the life-changing message of the Bible, she has some tough decisions to make.

The journey of Bilquis from her Muslim faith to her conversion to Christianity is powerful.  Despite knowing this decision could mean losing her life, she made the decision anyway.  She followed the presence of God and, because of that, teaches a lot in her book about true Christianity and trusting in God during enormous obstacles.

In America, I think it is difficult to imagine the pressure put on those in other countries to not follow Christ.  The loss of family and honor has a different level of importance in other cultures.  I found myself fascinated by Bilquis' life and her devotion.  I often wondered, while reading, if I would have had the same courage in the face of such pressure.

I did understand the love Bilquis had for her family, especially the grandson that she raised.  Would I risk losing one of my children to follow Christ?  I tell myself that I would, but I have never had to face that situation.

I think it is important for Christians to read these stories, and to see how other Christians have dealt with challenges and persecution.  In me, when I read these stories, I am inspired and encouraged in my walk with Christ.  I know that, even though my challenges aren't the same, and I don't face the same persecution, one day God could lead me to a similar place.

I want to be ready, if God calls me, to face whatever He has for me.

I think all Christians need to be more prepared than we are to face persecution.  Deep in my spirit I feel that it will happen.  The Bible doesn't promise an easy life.  His promises are amazing, but a life of ease is not one of them.
