2010 - A Year in Review

January2010

January 2010 had my husband beginning a new job.  After unemployment and nearly crashing finances, my family began doing what we could to economize.  We started looking for simpler lives.  Our infatuation with the Little House of the Prairie television show began in earnest, and mixed with our desire for simpler living and financial peace.  I posted about this in this post.

In February 2010 I posted a lot about finances and saving money.  I also posted about feeling a bit of the winter blues.  Winter seems to drag then, and I started taking action to battle those blues.  One of our little fun nights was written about in this post.

We tried a few different things in March. We were using ACE for all subjects, but I had the desire to supplement.  Life had gotten crazy, as it sometimes does.  We were looking forward to Spring Break.  I had gone through a time of researching the Robinson Curriculum, and was experimenting with some of Mr. Robinson's ideas.  I talked about some of this and more in this post.

April brought spring.  Ditching some of ACE, I planned a unit study for Laura.  I talked about it in this post.
We also had some fun in the warmer weather planting sunflowers.

In May we tried Beyond Five In A Row with a unit study on Snowflake Bentley.  My mind was also very focused on my oldest who was graduating from high school.

June began with my daughter's graduation.  In the middle was some summer activities, but the month ended with a very special birthday party for my Grandmother's 80th Birthday!
June 2010

The Fourth of July and the county fair were part of our summer activities in July.  The highlight for me was my first ever attempt at growing a garden.
July 2010

August marked the end of summer vacation and the start of another school year.
August 2010

I studied on some of my personal battles in September.  The month ended not so great when the majority of our home got the stomach flu.
September 2010

October brought some learning experiences for mom as I began reading about and applying Charlotte Mason philosophies.  Within a few weeks a lot of ACE had been set aside as I began to restart some Heart of Dakota.
October 2010

November went by fast as Laura and I delved into more American History with a study of Benjamin Franklin and a reading of George Washington published in the Sower Series.
November 2010

December meant the beginning of Christmas traditions.  We had our family pictures taken, went on our annual hunt for the perfect Christmas Tree, performed in our church's Christmas Pageant, and celebrated the birth of our Saviour, Jesus.

The year has been a busy one, and I am praying for blessing on 2011.  The children are growing fast, and I am grateful I can cherish the moments with them that God has blessed me with.  I am blessed to be able to homeschool my daughters.
