I watched this movie yesterday with my nearly 80 year old grandmother. We both enjoyed it quite a bit.
The movie chronicles the story of a young Billy Graham from his life just before he accepted Christ during the Great Depression until 1949. It shows how his faith developed and grew, how his ministry started, and how he met and fell in love with his wife, Ruth.
I thought the movie intriguing. I was once told that the mark of a good pastor is that he will not draw people to himself but to Jesus. That is how I felt after watching this movie. I wanted to get closer to Jesus.
There is a scene, near the end of the movie, when Billy is wrestling with questions and doubts about his faith. That scene, powerful and moving, made me question whether I could state the same thing. "By FAITH, I accept the Bible as the infallible word of God." A pastor friend of mine worded it a different way. "God said it... That settles it." How many times have I questioned the Bible? Oh, maybe not directly, but definitely in my life I have questioned God when things have gone wrong or gotten very hard.
To trust God that completely is my goal. Billy Graham is an inspiration. He draws hearts to Jesus. Now, through a movie, his impact of his early years and some of his struggles can influence and touch a new generation.
