I am sick. I don't know how or why, but I woke up a couple days ago with a nasty cold. Poor Laura got up for school today and was left to her own devices. She did her math, which was a geometry lesson. Then, she finished the book Meet Kit An American Girl.
After that, she was free to do what she wanted. I just didn't feel up to doing much. Reading to her was out of the question as I have almost no voice. (She thinks that is funny.)
The interesting thing was that, left to herself, she started a craft. I think Mother's Day inspired her. She was working on a Father's Day card. Laura sat at the table with a bunch of my scrapbook supplies and began to create her own art.
Later, we went to the library for some books. I let Laura pick one herself, and was a little surprised at her choice. She is a cat lover, and has been interested in the Warrior series. I let her get the first one, though the reviews have me wondering about some of the mythological elements such as astrology. However, I think I'll first see if Laura reads beyond the first chapter or two. She often checks out a book and doesn't follow through. Since the reading level is a little high, I'll see if she sticks with it. If she does, I think we will sit down and talk about the aspects of the book.
