Working on Learning

Megan actually wasn't left behind today.  She colored with her color wonder markers.  She just loves those things.

She was read to by Tasha for awhile.  It was humorous that, while Tasha was reading, Megan would stop her so she could name all the things and animals in the book.

Laura began to play with her Math-it game.  Actually, it is a neat game to help with learning and cementing facts.  It starts with addition and subtraction.  It goes on to dubblit, which is doubles added and a good intro to beginning multiplication.  Then it goes to timzit, which is what I am using with Laura.  I started her out with threes, fours, and fives today.

She starts with the colored side of the card.  Each times card is color coded with the answers.  The red cards have red answers, the green cards have green answers, etc.  Laura plays with those for awhile.  The answers are on the back of the little cards to tell her if she is right.

Then, after she has mastered the colored cards, she flips the answer card over.  On the back all the answers are black.  Now, she has to know the answer without help.  Then, she plays with these until she masters them.

I also had Laura work with Tasha on some flash cards that I printed out from online and am putting on cardstock.

I think some of this done consistently with Laura's ACE math will help her with her struggles.  I don't plan to quit doing this drill work, even if it means we cut down on how much book work we do temporarily.  I think mastering these facts once and for all will speed up her math down the road.

When Laura commented that she liked Math-it, I was thrilled.  She usually complains about anything math related.  Having watched her struggle, I like seeing her find something that she enjoys and that is helping her where math is concerned.
