Weekly Wrap-up 2-27-09

There are weeks when I feel like we have accomplished quite a bit, and weeks where I feel very little has been accomplished. This was one of those weeks where at the end of it I ask myself, "What did we do?"

BIBLE - Laura is reading about David in her Old Testament Stories. She just finished reading about David having to flee from Saul to save his life. In New Testament reading Laura read in Mark. She read 4 chapters. We still haven't done Prims.

MATH - Laura did five lessons in Abeka math. She is learning multiplication by threes.

SCIENCE - This was a light week for science. Laura worked in her Ace Pace. Over the next couple of weeks we are going to get into heavier topics. It's nice to take it easy for a week or two.

SOCIAL STUDIES - Laura is learning about maps this week. She did a couple workbook pages from our Learn at Home book.

LANGUAGE ARTS - Laura is learning about friendly letters. She has practiced writing a couple, though they need some more practice. In Spelling, Laura has been working on homophones. She's struggling a little with these. She gets confused. However, we have started using spellingcity.com for extra practice. Laura loves the games.

READING - Laura is on chapter 8 of The Bears on Hemlock Mountain. I wanted to finish the book, but we've had a couple trips to make out of town and reading time was cut short. Laura did read Who is God? and Who is Jesus? by Carolyn Nystrom. We only got through a chapter of A Little Princess for read a-loud. I'm bummed about that, but we'll just hit it next week.

WRITING - Laura is reviewing letters in her A Reason for Handwriting Book. We haven't gotten into it the way I want.

This week also included our day trip plus I had to take one of my daughters unexpectedly to the doctor yesterday. Sometimes I wonder how I am supposed to homeschool with all the other demands. I prioritize schooling, but sometimes it still comes second to the other children and their needs. Lately, those needs have been illnesses and injuries. I just can't put those things off.
