President's Day Honored Here or There

Yesterday was President's Day. Banks were closed. Courthouses were closed. Libraries were...not all closed. With the busy weekend we had, I had never gotten to the library to get books for Laura this week. We are studying Holidays and Butterflies. How ironic that I needed to go to the library to get books on American Holidays like President's day, and the library was closed due to President's Day. So, I handed Laura a book on Abe Lincoln that I had on the list to read and was here in our house.
Then, a little later, I found out the the library about 20 minutes away was open. What? It's a Holiday! However, I NEEDED to go to the library. So, off I went...to check out books on Holidays and Butterflies.
I guess President's Day is one of those pick and choose holidays. Most places are closed cause it's a paid holiday. I don't know if many people really feel they are honoring the two men the holiday represents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Schools were open here. I think the local schools now use the date as a makeup snow day. If they've missed school due to weather, they go on President's Day to make it up instead of adding the day on to the end of the year.
We did school. I don't know why one library was closed for the holiday and the other was open. I just found it interesting. I'm glad I got the books for Laura for the week, however.
