Chicken Bone Experiment - the conclusion

A couple weeks ago, as we were finishing up studying the human body, we put a chicken bone in vinegar. After sitting for two weeks, the results were supposed to show how our bones would react without calcium. Today, we took the bone out of the vinegar to analyze.
I expected that the bone would break apart, but I was surprised. It wasn't brittle. It was spongy. Laura, once she got over how icky the bone smelled and felt, held the bone. It was squishy and soft. It bent and even twisted easily. Laura was able to easily twist it until it came apart into two pieces.
It was an awesome experiment to show how important Calcium is to our bones. When Laura first looked at the bone, the only thing she thought was that it was discolored. She learned instead that it had turned to mush from the inside out.
