• Oct. 12, 2008 - God's miracles
Friday night I received a phone call from a friend that lives by my grandmother. She told me that an ambulance had just taken my grandma to the hospital. I quickly made some phone calls and found out that my grandma's breathing problems were making it difficult for her to breath. My husband and I left the 17 year old in charge and took off to the hospital. It wasn't good. My grandmother, 78, had quit breathing at the hospital and had been put on a respirator. She was life-lined to a bigger hospital an hour away.
The entire hour ride with my family to that hospital was a long one. And the following two days were trying. My wonderful, sweet, God-fearing grandma was having fluid drained from her lungs. A machine was breathing for her. She had tubes everywhere. It was scary to say the least.
Prayers went out all over. Churches began praying. My grandmother is a very loved lady. I am ashamed to say that I didn't expect her to pull out of it very fast if at all. I didn't doubt that God could help her, just that he would. My grandma is a smoker. She has cut back drastically, only smoking one or two cigarettes a day, but she hasn't quit. She has been told by every doctor, nurse, and family member to quit, but still she smokes. I know, quitting is hard. I did it, and I remember the difficulty. I guess I just thought that God was calling her home.
But I received a call a little bit ago. My grandma is off the ventilator. She is breathing on her own.
I was wrong. God isn't done with her yet. It was supposed to be days before this happened if at all. So God does answer prayer. My time with my grandma has been extended. She has more work to do. I am grateful. Thank you Jesus!
