After much deliberation, we have decided to go half-speed through the summer for all three girls! Each day will count as a half-day towards our 180 day requirement.
I'm in the process of setting up schedules for all three girls. My hope is to keep skills from backtracking without burning them out! I also wanted to add some extra breathing room for sick days, vacations, etc. I'm very excited about this decision!
We won't be doing school on Wednesdays. Math will be daily for Laura and Megan. There will be a few weeks of no school at all. The week of the 4th of July, VBS week, teen mission week, and the week before we go back to full speed will all be "school-free" weeks. We will also be off most Wednesdays.
I would school year-round if I could. However, so much of all that goes on around this area is scheduled around the local public school schedules. So, I've tried to compromise and make the best of it. Laura probably has the hardest time with doing school work in the summer because she wants to hang out with her friends, most of which are public schooled. Even the Homeschoolers we know stick with the public school schedule so they can have more time for summer activities. Many local homeschoolers participate in 4-H. Summers are the busiest leading up to the Fair.
I don't expect half-speed to take an exorbitant amount of time each day. The rest of the day, after chores, will be free for relaxation.
All of this is the goal. Sometimes my plans don't work out, but we shall see how things go.
