She is Reading!

Megan and her first book

Megan read her first book on her own today!  We are using Hooked on Phonics Learn to Read program.  There is a story with each lesson.  After a few lessons, the child has gone from a simple story in the workbook to an actual book with a story.  It was such a thrill for Megan to read her first book!  She read it to me, her sisters, and her daddy. She was very proud of herself.  I was pretty proud of her too! 

I tried a couple different phonics programs, and looked at even more of them.  I wanted something that would give Megan confidence right away.  It came down to Hooked on Phonics and Bob Books.  I might still get some Bob Books to supplement, but it doesn't seem to be necessary. We are in our third week of Kindergarten, and Megan is READING!  What's even better is that she is getting it.
