Progressing through our Year

Has it really been since Monday since I have posted?  Homeschooling three children takes quite a bit of time.  It is rewarding in ways I cannot explain to others, but it is also a LOT of work some days.  The Kindergartener only takes a couple of hours per day, but for those two hours I have to focus on her.  Watching her learn and grow is such a rewarding process.  She is learning by leaps and bounds and seems to be enjoying herself.

Laura had a rough start to her year, but she is finding her groove again.  She had lost a lot of math skills over the summer, but is regaining them quickly.  She had to adjust from the Charlotte Mason method we were using to a more traditional program.  I did this because it brought simplicity to my home to have my older children using the same program.  Plus, they can move as fast or slow as they need to through their work, and often do that work independently of me.  Now that she has found her groove, she is growing by leaps and bounds in her education.  I was so afraid that, as had happened in the past, Laura wouldn't retain well or she would get bored and frustrated.  Actually, quite the opposite has happened.  Laura is older now, and wants to be challenged.  She sees her older sister working in a more traditional program, her friends using traditional school materials, and wants to know she is getting a similar education.  Plus, we have time each day for her to read books of interest to her, such as her missionary novels.  Dad has helped, on his days off, with Laura's science projects.  It's become "their thing".

At the beginning of homeschooling, it took Jasmine a long time to finish her work.  She is slowly catching on and doing well.  Her test scores have been outstanding, especially when compared to her performance in public school.  Each day she is growing and learning.  She is picking up new study skills.  She is advancing in her writing ability.  I am very blessed to have the opportunity to see Jasmine beginning to realize that she is not as "dumb" as she was made to feel in the public school.  She has realized that she can do well, if she applies herself.  I am very proud of her.
