What do tweezers, a pair of pliers, and a clothespin have in common? Well, today they represented fish in our science experiment about the world of coral reefs.
Sugar became algae. Noodles became clams. Rice was fish food. Laura got to experiment with how certain fish, represented by the different tools, have an easier time eating certain foods because of their size and shape.
Daddy helped her out, but it was easy to see that the bigger fish, or pliers, have a tough time getting into the cracks of the blocks or coral reefs. It takes the tweezers or smaller fish with sharp teeth to get inside the small places.
Yes, it is common sense. However, it was a great visual too. The process of reading the information, having wonderful illustrations to look at, drawing pictures of the information, and doing some hands-on activities all collaborate to help Laura retain the information so excellently. Plus, she never gets bored. She is always doing different things and using different parts of her brain to learn. It is wonderful!
