Life in the Great Ice Age - A Review

Laura and I technically read this book last year when we began Heart of the Dakota the first time.  When I was organizing the curriculum last week by grade and program, I realized that some of the wonderful books we read through I never reviewed.

I loved this book!  After being educated in public school and learning only the theory of evolution, reading a biblical account of our world after the flood from a creationist point of view was wonderful.  Life in the Great Ice Age discusses things such as the climate changes that occurred after Noah's Flood, the people of the time and how they survived, and the animals that existed then.

Life in the Great Ice Age shares scientific data through the fictional story of a family that lived at the time.  The first part of the book gives great examples of how people would have lived at the time of the Ice Age.  The second part of the book gives scientific data and findings about that time.    Heart of Dakota mixes parts 1 and 2 together in the reading so that, as you read the story of the family, you also read about the scientific data or the tools used during that time.  It is surprising to read that, unlike in the theory of evolution, man was very creative, intelligent, and advanced.  Reading this book to my daughter was just as educational for me as it was for her.  It is a book we will go back to over and over again.
