We continued our Snowflake Bentley unit study from Five In A Row. Today was art day, which Laura really enjoyed.
We talked about the Illustrator of the book, Mary Azarian. We learned about how she would make her pictures using hand-colored woodcuts.
We read a little about photography. Laura looked at pictures of Wilson Bentley's snowflake photographs. We did the ol' cut out a snowflake from paper.
Finally, I let Laura borrow my camera (a tough decision) to take some nature photographs. Wilson Bentley loved nature and took pictures of other things in nature besides snowflakes. It was a very rainy day today, so Laura had to be extra careful with my camera.
Laura did a fairly good job taking pictures. Some were blurry, but in general she captured some pretty shots. Some of the plants had raindrops on them, which added to the beauty.
Laura enjoyed today, and that means a lot. If she is enjoying what we study, she doesn't even realize she is learning.
